precleaner??

now that i am mowing grass with my cub i was wondering if i need or should i get a precleaner? would that help extend my engine's life while operating in dusty dirty conditions you often run into while mowing?

Does it have the stock air cleaner hooked up?

As long as the stock air cleaner is hooked up and has oil in it, it will work fine with regular maintance. The pre-cleaner was an add on accessory and is supposed to catch big stuff like bugs before it gets to the oil bath aircleaner.

Nope... just know the proper form for installing a pre-cleaner
I have a JD waiting for when I get off the pot and buy a precleaner for Ellie. It's not that I need it, just want one

i try to empty mine at least once a week, it can fill up quick.
