Dumb question. How can you tell the depot has one? I have been wondering about that. I can't find it on Messicks or the on-line lookup at CaseIH. Maybe I am not looking in the right area.

You have to go directly to their web site. You can then do a part number check as a "guest". If you get a hit on a part, you have to go through a dealer for pricing and to get the part.

Two questions about the manure spreader.
My spreader has wood boards on the sides. The photos on this thread show either sheet metal or plywood or? What's usual?
What does the cover look like? Don't have one.

DickB, The cover he refers to is the two chain guards which are often removed and missing. The sides were originally sheet metal, and the floor was wood planks.

If you strike out at the depot, and can't find it otherwise, and can't stand to keep looking anymore, here are a couple ideas I had...
1. If you know someone with a plasma table or a water jet, they could copy the existing gear, and cut a new gear out of plate steel. Laminate 3-4 thinner layers of metal together, held with rivets or bolts, some creative grinding to round off the teeth, and use a weld-in hub from Tractor Supply on either side.
2. That chain is a standard size, and the number should be stamped into each link. You might be able to find a generic sprocket, maybe something with a taper lock hub, with the right number of teeth for that chain.

Thanks, Bob. My spreader, as I mentioned, has wood planks for siding. And, like you say, a wood floor. Saw the spreader, for a few years, stuck in the weeds and not moving, so stopped, talked to the owners, paid for it, brought it home. The owner told me he soaked old motor oil on a rag and slopped that on the floor and side boards to preseve them. Not ecological or environmentally friendly advice there, but I've done this for something like 20 years, and it works. Comments on more eco-friendly options?

The manual says to coat the floor with linseed oil several times a season, so you're not far off.
