Farmall Cub

Today I put new front tires on my 1959 CUB and then proceeded to remove the right rear wheel. I jacked up the rear being very carefull to make sure it was safe and removed all the lug nuts. I could not get the wheel to slide off the hub; even tried a Big F'n Hammer (carefully all around the rim). No luck. I should add it doesn't have wheel weights, but there is fluid in the tire and it has leaked for a very long time before I got the tractor.
What are my options.

Try taking the 4 rim bolts out and take the rim & tire off first and then try to take the wheel center off by itself.

Back tractor out on drive way. Valve stem down, remove valve stem and drain the tube. Wash off rim, tire and drive way with water.

Leave the rim on the hub. Dismount the tire from the rim - with the rim on the tractor - much easier.

You could loosen, not remove, the five lug bolts just a bit and drive the tractor around the yard. A lot of times the center will pop loose from the hub.

When you drain the fluid, be careful not to let it get into any soil you want grass to grow. It will neutralize the soil and nothing will grow there.

I had the same problem last week. once I got to the point where the tractor was on a jack and the bolts were removed I heated the center hub around the bolt holes with a cutting torch and they both came right off. as the hub heats it expands in the outward direction.

It is much easier to change the tire while it is still on the tractor, if thats what your end product was going to be....I just did that awhile back and used an Esco bead breaker recommended by some guys on the forum....Worked slick....Or as slick as changing a tire can be... Dave

Sounds like the rim will need cleaning and painting. Probably easier to do, off the tractor. (For me, it fits in my blast cabinet) Ed

Did you put wedges between the axle and radiator bolster? If not, you are not safe.

With the 5 lug bolts removed there's nothing holding the wheel to the hub but rust and cobwebs.

Hit it harder, with a bigger hammer, and swear at it. It'll come off eventually.

Please take heed of Peter's suggestion before you get to carried away with this operation.

If the tire been on the rim undesturbed for a long time you may have to take the wheel off the center to get the tire off. I put mine on the ground under a bottle jack under my truck bumper to break the bead. Worked well for me. 50 year old tires can sometimes be a pain to mount/dismount. When you get most of the calc out of the tire use a small vinyl hose to syphon out the rest.
