new here

Postby sirlan » Fri May 27, 2005 7:43 am

I just wanted to introduce myself. I just got my first tractor - a '49 Cub (S/N 87902). My dad picked it up for me last weekend and I can't wait to get back in Georgia to start messing around with it. I was originally looking for a Super A (and still am), but my dad heard about this one for only $850 so I asked him to look at it and get it if it's in decent shape. It needs a new starter and some cosmetic work but doesn't seem to smoke or leak. It has very little rust and also came with a disc harrow, drawbar, and hydraulic lift so I feel it's well worth what was paid for it. It'll mainly be used for mowing assuming I can find a decent belly mower.

I've been lurking for a few weeks and have already taken some of the posted suggestions like ordering several manuals from Binder Books. I look forward to restoring it with my dad (along with his Super C).

I also look forward to learning as much as I can from everyone here.

As Bill said, Welcome aboard Greg. Since you've been looking around, I assume you've visited some of the links etc. so I'll just say make yourself at home. We'll help when we can. Have fun!

I live and work in NC, but was born and raised in GA. My parents and I have a few acres of land down there where I'm planning to build a log cabin next year (to help me escape the corporate rat race). I'll have a couple of acres of grass to cut so I'm hoping the cub will come in handy.

Thanks for the welcome guys.
Greg

Greg, you won't be sorry with the Cub. I have my Dad's '55 almost to the point where I am going to call it restored (but still a working tractor). I bought a Super A a couple of months ago for my next project. It is a nice tractor, but the Cub has so much character and does everything I ask of it with no problem. :D

Welcome to the fourum. The Cub will handle a couple acres nicely. Mine does! Lots of good info here and the people are even better!

Welcome aboard, Greg. If you don't have them already, would suggest parts & maintenance manuals. They can be bought at http://www.binderbooks.com . Plenty of reading info on the home page here ..........

Welcome Greg, as you have already seen your in the right place for any help or advice you may need. Just ask everyone is ready and willing to help.
I bought an old tractor all dusty and worn,
knew nothing about her just the year she was born
I washed her and greased her and painted her red
Now she lives happily right here in my shed.

Welcome. We are in Charlotte a bunch of the time (I'm with a NASCAR team, well part time now) I know you will enjoy the forum and the folks on it. Have fun with the tractor.

Welcome, Greg. If you are unable to find a decent used mower for your Cub, Woods makes new ones that are excellent, which is what I did.

Have them both

Postby countershaft » Fri May 27, 2005 8:08 pm

Greg, I have one of each and like them both ! I use the Cub with a Woods 59 and cut about 3 acres of grass each summer, then I use the SA with the snow plow and have a 150' driveway to keep clean here in "snow" country of northern PA. They both serve a purpose and do a fine job. ! I also plow garden , rototill and disc with the SA

Take a little time to play, you don't grow old as fast that way.
