Farmall Cub

I've been on a couple lo-boys. I wouldn't have one for that reason...you gotta be an acrobat or something.

I swear IF I keep it, a lot of people won't understand it, but I think the deluxe seat will have to go. It has no cushion in it at all. Yesterday I cut a piece of 3/4 plywood to have something to sit on. I can't imagine how hard it would be if my butt were sitting on 4" of foam. I'd almost be tempted, were they not so "desirable" to cut the arms rests off of it...

A deluxe seat with the CORRECT cushion on it is a lot better than a piece of plywood...

Most of the seat cushions you can get these days are just a piece of plywood with some foam on top. AFAIK, the "correct" cushions are hollow with springs and a bit of padding like automotive seats.

Be that as it may Matt, the height of it would still put me higher and closer to the steering wheel...

Otis has a lot of work into it and it is really nice. It should be kept special I guess .. kinda one of a kind so far. Suggest you keep the Lo-Boy for mowing duties and let Otis relax in the barn. Take him out for shows and stuff and maybe a joyride or two a month

Take the deluxe seat off and put on a pan seat .. upholstered if possible ..



This one is going to work. It isn't getting redone for a long time I imagine.

Those who are tall seem to have difficulty with Lo-Boys. Us shorter folks .. not so much. Must be the legs or something....

I sure wish the hood on mine was in that good o' shape...

You Never know dusti a little body work an a coat of paint an a (Pan Seat!) it will look great next to Otis!

You get what you pay for. My 63 has the original spring deluxe seat and the 78 has a factory foam seat. My butt has never bottomed out on either. Tried one of the aftermarket seats, sat on it once, said "no way". Wish I had gotten the padded armrest a lot sooner!

I have both a cheap aftermarket seat base and and to originals (with springs). The originals are still in great shape and are very comfortable. Pretty sure Hamilton Bob sells the good ones with springs. http://www.hamiltonbobs.com/Bottom-for- ... 206375.htm

I spend a lot of time on a yeller Cub and you really can't see much yeller from the seat. I did recently add a red Cub to the flock (a 12 VOLT one, with key start) but still love my yeller ones the most.

No, I didn't Larry but I guess since it has a cushion it won't be too bad

As I see it there are really two issues with the Lo Boy accessibility. First is getting on and off and second is once you are in the seat how much "room" you have. With the variables of two different seats and two different length steering shafts and what ever may have been owner modified (including the actual size and shape of the owner ). No wonder it gets troublesome to compare and different opinions.

I have a '63 round nose Lo Boy with deluxe seat. My only annoyance, other than the getting on and off, is my left knee hits the steering post. I think I'm gonna put a piece of one of those pool noodles around it.

and specifically this picture from ebay of it (auction has ended) scroll way down the listing for pictures; I'll refrain from the restoration quality discussion here but there are a couple comfort/accessibility modifications to mention.

#1 A spring seat will work on a Lo Boy????
#2 Is having the seat two inches to the left worth the trouble of the bracket between the seat and seat post?????
#3 The fenders moved out, especially the right one, would give a bit more room although you'd still have the bracket.

Well, my '67 isn't a Lo-boy...I just can't get on and off the thing period, and it's because of that blamed seat. IF I were keeping it, and I've decided I am not, I would definitely have to get rid of that deluxe seat and replace it with a pan.
