Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head

Fri Jun 28, 2013 9:07 pm

I should have asked this question the other day when I inquired about keeping water out of my magneto. When towing my Cub in rain (I am not fortunate enough to have an enclosed trailer) is there a concern about water getting in my vented fuel cap? Should I use the old cap in those situations, or is it even worth worrying over? Thanks

It's really not likely for water to get in through the vented cap. A more likely possibility with the old cap is water going in under the cap through a poorly seated or dried out gasket. I'd stick with the new cap. Also, if there's any gas in the tank, the shaking around will cause the gas to volatilize, and typically will produce a little pressure in the gas tank anyway. This will help prevent any water from coming in.

I Think you would get more in the tank from condensation then thru the new cap.
