Congrats on trying to resurrect the family Cub--and a Demonstrator at that!!

I know you're busy this weekend, but if you get a chance to get a clear photo or write down the info on the cement mixer and PM me (or post), I would appreciate it.

You have a treasure trove there, which I sense you are aware of. That's good. Keep it all together and focus on getting the Cub up and running first. Those implements will still be there when you're ready for them.

I can do that, but not sure where any numbers would be on that thing, it's pretty cramped and dark in there. Any spots to look for?

Having what someone called the gas/water separator cleaned out right now. The bowl and solid fuel line connected from the left side of the tank. I didn't realize that bowl was glass! It's totally black. I'll grab the carb at lunch and do the same. After work I'll see if I can find a few things locally. If not ill check out TMs site a little bit more.

Hah, good call! I never paid much attention to that thing, but now I see it clear as day.

The mixer looks like it may be a Homart distributed by Sears. Very similar to the Homart I have.

Here are a few from last weekend/today...









Manifold was blown out, and gunked. Looks like there may be a pinhole so will probably leak. Not a big worry at the moment. Later down the road can get it welded.

Sediment bowl was already off, that and the carb were cleaned today at work. Carbs scared me in the past, but this seems like its easier than those found on bikes. Got a new screen and cork gasket for the bowl. A coworker was thinking the gasket in between the bowl/body was in good enough shape to re-use. I'll still probably hunt one down once I place an order for other parts.

So I guess theres the magneto! Anything I should do with that, like new cap, before trying to start?

I am headed back either tomorrow after work, or Thursday morning. I will call a local parts store that has some parts if they have an oil filter, plugs, wires and some 90 gear oil. I have sae 30 motor oil, do these things prefer a detergent or non detergent?

I will boil some water and dump it straight through the radiator a few times to "flush."

I will pull the air cleaner off and bring it back to clean.

I will gunk the motor, and degrease as best I can with a toothbrush and bucket (no running water).

Other than that, I will continue to clean up from sandy, cut some more grass, have some beers, and play with fireworks!

Post a pic of the pinhole in the manifold, it may be the drain you are seeing.

Suggest you change the copper fuel line for a proper steel line. Copper is not a good substitute. Yes, you might get by .. but since it has been parked for a longish time and the age of the line is unknown for sure, I wouldn't trust it at all. See Tim about the carb parts and he can help you with a making a new steel line. Pretty easy - How To Upgrade A Cub Fuel System. Take the fuel sediment bowl with you

Some things to consider -

Spark Plug wires - make sure that they are not carbon composite but copper cores. Mags do not like carbon composite wires.

Magneto - well, you will need to check the points and the condensor as well as the rotor. Might want to take that to Tim's as well Check the cap for spark tracks and cracks. If none then the cap may be ok.

Manifold - is supposed to have an allen head screw in it. That may look like a small hole. Don't weld that as it is the vacuum port for connecting things like a milker. Or it could be the drain hole.

Parts - check Cub FAQ's #1 on ATIS Par 7 - Are parts available? - the cross ref's are there for Points, Rotor, Condenser, Oil Filter etc.,

Thanks Tim, I may give you a call over the weekend. I basically take 84 straight to the PA border, pretty sure it pretty much passes right by you.

That's the hole! One less thing to worry about!

Cement mixer is from sears. I sprayed engine bright but it's no match for the grease! Little by little clean it by hand. Didn't get much done, a bear cub ran by so I was on high alert for the mother. Not to mention it was pretty damn humid in there! I took some pics but no Internet connection here, I'll post up when I'm home.
