Trying to Find an Affordable Cub

Postby Rudi » Mon Jul 01, 2013 9:18 pm

This is why I am starting to look outside of the Maritimes for my next Cub. I need one for my loader and I could use one strictly for the C-2. I can't change implements easily anymore so, I am going to have to add to the herd.

Really pricey for what they are.

We are a long way apart on price. I wouldn't mind this one at all.

This one we are a long way apart as well ... not worth what he wants for it.

Plus, he thinks this is supposed to be a M-H Pony or something :big give up:

That is the one thing I really like about that '48. The grille is a real nice job and kinda unique. It is about 4 hours away from me so I haven't seen it yet. The yaller and white one I have seen a couple times, it is about 20 kms away just across the river.

cubs arent cheap. they have held there value very well. i paid $1,800 for mine. it included a sickle bar, 54 blade with all hangers for mid and front hook up, pto belt attachment, chains, front and rear wheel weights. it has touch control hydrualics, and runs well. needed nothing major except some fluid changes; has been an excellent tractor so far; and i added a belly mower this spring, i mow with it weekly; or at least when the weather allows all of this stupid rain. i see some prices that really absurd.
http://buffalo.craigslist.org/grd/3882370006.html
sheet metal is pretty rusty. this poor little tractor probably spent too much time outside. he wants $2,000? i think that's a little steep
http://buffalo.craigslist.org/grd/3863867755.html
this tractor has been on craigslist since before i bought my cub. $3,500 is a little steep. maybe for a fully restored tractor that's about right. this thing needs more work. if it really has just had an overall what's with all of the lekas? my cub leaks very little and i'm not sure if it has been been overhauled
http://chautauqua.craigslist.org/grd/3859136887.html
this one's actually not too bad of a deal its probably going to go fast

when i bought my cub it came with almost everything i needed to do what i wanted to do with it. it came with the chains, weights, and plow. the only thing additional that i had buy was a belly mower. i found a danco c3 for $125 at a case/ih dealer auction. had to buy the mule drive. so the total investment was around $2,300

That round nose looks pretty sharp Rudi.....Is it just a cosmetic rebuild or mechanical as well....My first one came with my house, the second I paid 1300 with the sickle bar mower....There's a few around here from time to time reasonable, but most people have caught on to the response from ads etc and have jacked their prices up....Dave

What do you call reasonable for a runner, not a trailer queen? It has been a while since I converted any funds so am not up on exchange rate either! I don't know of any, just wondering. What does Canada have to say about imports? Vern

Rudi, you need this one for your C-2. ALL original except rear tires, quiet gears, tight, charges well and all lights work. Handles a sickle mower well with the hand lift. But, alas, too many miles between us. :(

That's a nice looking tractor, Denny! Rudi, sure looks like a nice honest working tractor. Cub Express sounds like a good option!

Dusti, it's a '48. You could start a run of sequential years. We could work it out, it's affordable.

Hmmm...that's only two hours away.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Denny Clayton wrote:Rudi, you need this one for your C-2.

Actually Denny I have a '47 just like that :D Kinda looking for a '49 since I have Ellie a '48  Might as well get sequential.

ScottyD'sdad wrote:Bet we could arrange cub express, to Cecil's, for this one, Denny! Ed

Ed, I gotta find a trailer for the Cub that is getting expressed to Cecil's :{_}:

pickerandsinger wrote:Is it just a cosmetic rebuild or mechanical as well

Dave:

It is cosmetic only and sure looks like a 50 foot paint job on parts of the Cub. But, he is proud of it so who am I to judge :?: I just won't pay him that much for a '48 when my own '48 only cost me $1,100.00 and I got a plow and trailing harrow as well.

ad356:

I have $2,000.00 invested in my 3 Cubs. Granny I paid $800.00 for and Jethro .. well he cost me the balance of that 2 grand  .. course he is just a parts cub but the brandy new 9.25x24 tires on the rims and rear wheel weights I figure is really what I paid for

I have no real idea of what I have invested in implements and such .. who is counting .... suffice to say more than double what I have in my Cubs. My big problem is that folks up here typically think that because it is an antique it is worth 2 or 3 times it's actual value. The fact that a couple guys I know have been buying into that price point has made it all the more difficult to buy them at a fair price.

v w wrote:What do you call reasonable for a runner, not a trailer queen? It has been a while since I converted any funds so am not up on exchange rate either! I don't know of any, just wondering. What does Canada have to say about imports? Vern

Vern:

Reasonable price for a runner is anywhere from $1,200.00 to $1,800.00 depending on condition. I am not really interested in many more implements except for the ones I do not have   Cdn and US dollars have been essentially at par over the last year, some fluctuation between $0.95 to $1.05US for a Cdn buck. So .. I really am not concerned these days about the exchange. As far as bringing it into Canada, as long as it hasn't been in a farm field for 6 months it is fine. A good power wash all over and there isn't anything to worry about. The only thing that the Feds and the Provincial Governments want is taxes ... so since there are no duties on used farm equipment and the sales tax is really minimal, I have no problems at the border. We declare everything.

The reason I posted was because I am interested in what others have seen for prices. I already have a want in the classifieds which is where all that should be of course, but I am intrigued by what others think fair/equitable/reasonable pricing would be for Cubs of different years. No trailer queens as there are none of those here and I don't want any.
