my pulley appears to be about 7 inches your pulleys look original though i would get the correct width and length belt first adjust pulleys before you look for any idler pulleys did you actually take your pulley off to measure it it is hard to measure with the nut in the way just my 2 cents

on previous page tst mentioned pulleys alignment looks off. vertically they are parallel, hoizontally they are off but appear to follow belt angle. thats what the last 2 pictures are showing

I see two things in this picture that jump out at me first I don't think the belt is riding all the way to the bottom of the pulley because there is no wear showing there. Second and very importantly on the right side of the pulley in the groove where the wear is occurring is what looks like rust scale. That needs to be as smooth as possible. That will eat your belt and may be what's causing it to turn over. The other thing I can't get a good view of is how the pulley's align or feed one into the other. There is a very good picture and description in some of the Woods manuals on belt and pulley alignment. Here's the page I am referring to from Rudi's manuals, it may give you some thing to look at and how to look. Gotta get that rust out or replace those idlers first though, that's the big issue I see right now.

I have the same problem with mine that I have not resolved. It will just 'flip' the belt on the top pulley as you show. The right pulley 'bracket' (steel tab) is supposed to be bent inward so it aligns the idler pulley with the other sheaves.

The project is in the 'queue'..... behind several other things, I use the Mott to mow with so not a priority.

The others have you covered. Can't stress enough about having the correct belt and pulley alignment. The "B" series belt is what you need, they are deeper than those blue or green belts and have the correct width and pitch for your pulleys. ...and usually last a very long time, once the other issues are resolved.

I am sure after correcting all above it will be golden. used the previous owners belt as comparison for new one, guess that was not real smart. what the heck I been in a spending spree since I started repairing the cub, All well worth it though.
Sure does cut some grass in style
