touch control fluid

Postby TJG » Fri Jul 05, 2013 8:27 pm

Hi, I lost some touch control fluid with a tractor split. The manual notes replacement with IH Touch Control Fluid. Is there an acceptable alternative fluid for the touch control or is the IH the best? And do the lines need bled, or any other advice with replacement of the fluid, before running the hydraulics?

Todd, if IH fluid is not available you can use a hydraulic fluid that is MS 1209 compliant. To remove air from the system fill the TC to the bottom of the fill plug and with the plug removed and the tractor running at a moderate idle work the control lever fully forward and backward 10 to 12 times. This will bleed the system. Make sure you replace the fill plug tightly to avoid air entering the system when you finish.
It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.
