Farmall Cub

A while ago I posted about swapping final drive sides, to account for the brake pin part of the casting being broken on the left side. Take a look at these photos - Guess I won't be putting this one on the left any time soon. This has been like this since we got the Cub in ~1965. How does one break this casting that badly?

Ken, I have cracked two. Both involved the 100 blade and reverse gear.

the bolts were loose and or the alignment pins are missing

for the cost of that many welding rods they could have bought another housing.

Go ahead and use it. Everyone knows tractor brakes are an oxymoron. I have a final on my 49 that looks almost as bad but she still works ok.

The challenge here is - if I install it back on the left, the left brake will pull unevenly if at all - because the brake pin part of the casting is cracked out. If I install it on the right, I can't even install the brake rod, because the brake rod opening is welded closed.

Our farm is hilly, some brakes is better than no brakes. Also, I'm spending 500-1000 hours restoring this Cub - I could not bring myself to put it back on the left - knowing it won't work and I certainly could not put it on the right and ever take it to a CubFest.

WHat's a few bucks more given what I've spent on tools and parts for this aging beauty.

Exactly. You're effort warrants a replacement.

Ken, I will give you my old one. You can have it properly welded and use it on either side. To paraphrase another quote "If you can't fix it correctly, how will you have time/money to fix it again"

Ken check with TST, I'm sure Tim will have one.
