Fairly pleased with myself after being thoroughly disgusted

Broke the left hand tie rod on Eddie (the disgusted part). Don't ask how, in the words of the late, great Harry Chapin, "if I answered at all, I'd lie."

Found a replacement on fleabay, but in the mean time, there's grass that needs to be mowed. So I found a piece of pvc pipe that would fit over the tie rod. It was a little loose, so I cut a quarter inch strip out of it lengthwise. Slid it over the tie rod, butted up the two ends inside, and secured it with two hose clamps on each end. Not intended as a permanent solution, but Eddie is driveable until the replacement arrives.

I feel your pain. Ran out of fuel at the exact same time the right tie rod separated at the sector. 10:30 last night, about 15 minuets from being done. Used the cell for a flashlight, stuck the ball back in the socket, got fuel , put it up and called it a night.

Good spur of the moment fix.....I'll keep that in the old memory bank and hope I don't have to use it....

Thank you all for the comments. Nice to know I still have the "field repair" talent from growing up on the farm.

Not to worry Boss Hog, I did all the mowing in first gear, just to increase the available reaction time. Not intending to use her any more than absolutely necessary until the replacement part arrives.

Like putting a cast on a broken leg. Doubt yours will be "healed"when you remove it though!

That's a good field fix. I too will store this one away hoping I never need it. No hillsides and no high-gear. Thanks for sharing, Ken
