I'm rebuilding my transmission and have a question
1. The main shaft front bearing comes with a shield on one side, should the shield face forward or to the rear?

The shield should face to the rear so as to hold oil in the cavity for bearing lubrication for when the tractor is running but not in motion.

I set the preload to 3 lbs., moved some shims from the left to the right side and measure .004 backlash. With out changing shims on the countershaft I get this pattern. I think this looks good.
