Gas Cap Leaks

Hi,
Some of you on here don't know me much probably, I haven't done a lot of posts, but I've been reading here for some time. We've owned the same Farmall Cub for 41 years, so I do have one, I've worked on other Cubs too. I was going to talk about gas caps today. When the gas cap gasket is old, or bad, gas can run out on the hood. You don't want gas coming out on the hood, that's a hazard. If the surface where the cap seals on the tank is flat, and not bent, a new gasket will probably help. You might be able to buy a gasket at a tractor parts store, or you can make one. Buy a little material at NAPA or somewhere, and cut it the right size. It's a thick material, I measured mine, it's .11 inch thick material. That thickness seems to work good on mine. Use either smooth rubber type, or cork, has to be made to work with gas too. Have a good day, Glen. :)

Glen, Sometimes the neck on the tank gets distorted. There is a tool that was originally made by IH (and reproduced by Earl) that straightens and reforms the neck so the cap will seal. I hope you are using the free replacement cap that is offered.

Hi,
I didn't know about that tool, sounds handy. Yes, I have the newer IH gas cap. I see pics on here of Cubs with the original type, and thought maybe some of them need a new gasket. :)
