All Yellow Rear Rims?

Postby '60_Lo-Boy » Wed Jun 01, 2005 4:25 pm

the time has come, after yards and yards of masking tape and about a months worth of newspaper to paint the rear rims.

my father wants to paint the rears all yellow, while id like to paint them silver. now im not usually a big fan of disobeying my parents or really arguing with them for that matter, but id really like to have silver rims...

also one of the rear disks wont come off.. i took some penetrant and an industrial miluakee impact wrench to them. no budgy..

i was wondering if it is worth it to disagree with my dad and then to try and mask the disks off after that... it will be a work tractor, but ive never seen a cub with all one color rear rims :?

im just a little undecided i suppose, discuss please :)
Aaron.

Rims should be silver.

Rims should be silver.

Rims should be silver.

Rims should be silver.

Rims should be silver.

Rims should be silver.

End of discussion.............

The pivotal question is whose tractor is it, yours or your father's?

weve both worked on it a good bit, but he put forth the money to buy it, and and all the tires/cylinder head/all other kinda parts... so probably his.

but he basically gave me the responsibility of getting it done.

illl probably just do all yellow.

Is this a bit inspirational?? http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y40/Bu ... b2ffa5.jpg

The paint on the tire is the white primer, I was better by the time I got to the silver.

My 'new' cub has red rims, but I am slowing down on the ambition just a bit.... at least until I get the yeller one out of the garage.

Since your is an earlier model than mine, the centers may have been yellow, if the rest of the tractor is yellow. The later ones that were not 'custom' painted were yellow with white hood, front rims, rear centers and lights.

AND SILVER RIMS.... That is the only thing sandblasted on the tractor. I used 'aluminum' rustoleum because it was the only thing reasonable I could find in a can. If you have it masked off you have a lot of good options in spray paint. (CHROME??).

3M now puts out a painters masking tape (it's Royal BLUE in color) 8) . It does a GREAT job for any painting jobs...and leaves no adheasive residue like most other masking tapes do  . I've found that if you start out by laying down pieces of this tape around the tire (where it meets the rim) first...THEN, using another layer of tape over this attaching your newspaper, or paper towels ( or whatever you're using to keep the paint off your tires) you get a better BOND :D . Of course it helps to FIRST clean the rubber tire where it meets the rim with rubber cleaner (I find that Windex does the trick) . GOOD LUCK...and HAVE FUN!!!
