McCormick 100 Manure Spreader

Postby Stanton » Mon Aug 19, 2013 7:03 am

Last week, I posted some pics of an old manure spreader, asking ya'll if it was a McCormick 100. You confirmed my thoughts, so contact was made with the owner and Saturday morning, my daughter and I set out for Scranton, Kansas...

...with an empty trailer, of course. :)

Beautiful morning; 57 degrees F, calm, clear sunny skies. We were hopeful. Arrived at the farm and the owner had taken the time to move the spreader out of the pasture and into his back yard. He even inflated the original tires on Friday and they were still holding air!! That was an unexpected surprise.

We loaded it up and headed home. :D

Here it is behind my '47 Circle Cub...

Just kinda fell into this one. It's in fairly good shape. The floor needs to be replaced, but most of the linkage is free. The left fender has some wear where the gear inside rubbed up against the sheet metal and cut a arched slash. Overall, I'm very happy for the price I paid. The Craigslist ad had been up since July 17th and listed as "Antique Manure Spreader." He listed it for his neighbor/friend who had a stroke and the wife was trying to liquidate some of his implements/equipment.

The morning was quite successful and memorable. And to tell you the truth, just the morning drive and the time spent between a dad and his 21 year old daughter made the whole trip priceless!

Stanton:

Very nice snag and the narrative was enjoyable. I think that you is bang on .. even if it had been a dud, the time with your daughter is worth well -- that is priceless :{_}: -- for everything else -- there is a plastic Card  :D Very nice 100 and it works. I am sure that spreader is going to be some nice come next spring ... judging by your track record .. gonna be spiffy for sure.

I am waiting for mine to come here from Jemseg. Hopefully this week ..

As you said, some time is priceless!
Can't wait to see what a new 100 spreader looks like. I know, I know, it's easy!! Ha.
You do beautiful work and sure make it look easy. Maybe a bigger jog than "Poison Ivy".
Now, if your daughter can spend some quality time with you in the rebuilding that again would be priceless.
Enjoy.

Thanks all. There's a little repair work to do, but plan to start on it this Fall. We'll see how it goes.
