Oil Filter Not Symmetrical?

OK - Silly question (not stupid - just silly)...I noticed the Case oil filter holes that the housing cover bolt goes through are not the same. I imagine it goes into the oil filter housing with the words "Case" right side up, but I'm just making sure. I also noticed TM sells a filter without any lettering on the side. So in that case (no pun intended) does the solid side go at top or the bottom? When I say solid, I mean the openeing without the small lip. The TM picture shows the bolt going through with the "lip" side down. Just checking. :thanx:

Yes, the smaller diameter hole is on the threaded end of the bolt.

This Case filter was given to me as a spare from the guy I bought the tractor from. The bolt goes through both ways but when I inspect the smaller end I can see that the bolt was pressed into it at some point and it's expanded! In the trash with it! Good thing I have a new one in the box! I wonder what surprises I'll get next with Ol' Betty!
