New shed for the Cub

Postby RogerW » Mon Sep 02, 2013 3:25 pm

Finally got a place to put the Cub under cover in the summer. It has has to sit outside for the summer most of the last 14 years. I just put up a 10x10 "tent" style shed for it, and a few other things to get them out of the weather. Was not the easiest thing to put up alone,m but I got it done. It is inside the "corral" [I call it}. Last year I putup a 24x24 fenced in area to store all my stuff and get it out of sight. This winter the Cub and snow blower will go in the garage, and summer things will go in this shed.

I think I see a smile on your cub's face.
Thanks for the pic. I've been considering one of these tent sheds myself.

Made a mess of this post, trying again, lots of pix. We used the frames from 2 heavier versions of your tent/canopy? Found here dead after some windstorms. We scrounge.

drilled for screws, sank the corner posts into larger bits, then added scrounged tin, and bought a few studs to make the doors. I hope I can get these in the right order...Well, I think they'll be in backwards order, I'll move on to the next reply to post the last 2 pix, sorry guys, but I hope our idea will help you all.

I patched the old screw holes with aluminum A/C duct tape, the actual metal tape, not the fabric kind, then we wirebrushed & painted the walls outside with aluminum Rustoleum.

That's my husband-J.W. He's tired. It took awhile, we only get to go up there one day a week. But, you could probably do it in one weekend with more than 3 family members. Or, more tools.

CJ:

An interesting take on Cub coverings :D Seeing as you live way down yonder in Louisianne way, structures like what we have up here don't seem to be necessary. I too am a recycler/scrounger (Navy trained - scrounging is an art form :D ). You made good use of what you had hanging around. Very nice way to accomplish both .. use what you have to build what you need :!: Your hubby looks pooped but pretty pleased too - well done :)

Roger:

Hey, if it works then it works. Those mini-garages are kinda popular up here in some of the subdivisions. The heavier ones actually stand up to a fair amount of snow. Let us know how this one holds up for you.

The area where the Cub lives has serious water flow across the land during heavy (frequent!) rains. We left a few inches between the tin and the ground, we may finish and insulate later, but we needed to build this in a hurry. Rain was coming! I dragged two rows of gravel into her wheel ruts! We might have to plan on winterizing her, too. We have to drain the house waterlines, empty the toilets, then cover them with blankets to keep them from breaking. That would be a disaster! Louisiana is NOT for sissies!

And, now, she came through a few freezes, many storms, no hurricanes yet, still standing fine, knock wood, starter went SNAFUey again, took us many weeks, back to the repair shop. he couldn't get it right, took it 'round the corner from up country, friend of a neighbor got it back in good repair. She runs great now.

I had one of those tent type sheds for one of my other tractors. Unfortunately, we live up on a hill with no wind break.
About half way through the winter the wind shredded the covering. I still have the frame, makes a good trellis for vines.

Is that shed tent one of those items from Tractor Supply? We had been considering something like that, but have not pulled the trigger. In our township, we have two employees of the township whose job it is to drive around our little burrough and look for "code violations" such as structures built without a permit. They are pretty strict (nosey) and I don't know if such a tent would be allowed unless it was very well hidden.

I need some kind of cover for my tractors, however, so I might have to investigate sooner rather than later!

Mine came from Menards. Had it on sale one day. I was a little worried about too much snow on the roof, but the wind kept it flapping enough no snow ever stayed n it. It is protected by a six food fence so it does not get the full force of the wind. So far=so good.

I sure miss Menards! That is one store chain that has not made its way east to Pittsburgh area yet, and their selection, service, and prices cannot be beat. They would give Home Depot and Lowes a HUGE run for their money!!
