Cub and Wagner assisting the Farmall H

I needed to remove the belly hydraulic pump from the H, both to lighten it a little and to replace a couple of badly leaking oil seals. That pump is fairly heavy, and removing is interesting. IH made a couple tools that fit in each side for two men to let it down while a third removed the bolts. Since I did not have either the special tools or two extra helpers I decided to improvise. I pulled the Wagner in under the belly pump, and got some cribbing and a scrap of old composite truss. When I had everything fitted the way I wanted, I removed all but one bolt and tightened the loader up against the belly pump. I then removed the last bolt. i did it this way because the cribbing made access to the other 3 bolts difficult. Once the bolt was removed I just eased it down to the floor. turned out to be a pretty easy job.

That goes to show that with a little thought a Cub can be used for more than most people think. Thanks for sharing.

Well done John. Improv is not just limited to a comedy club :big smile:

Having 2 artificial hips, a bad back, and arthritis, plus working by myself most of the time I have learned to IMPROV a lot.

Cub cranks work pretty well, maybe not if the cross pin is welded in place.

Did a little more IMPROV today. My grader/snow blade/carryall cub needed the rear main engine seal replaced, and I did not feel like pulling all the blade hardware etc. off.

I had been using the carryall, so the belly blade was already chained up, and I put a floor jack under it and pushed it up against the snow blade bracket to support torque tube, and used some bailing wire (standard item in every hill billy's tool box) to hold the arms for the front blade, and put a furniture mover under the carryall so I could roll the rear away and back as needed. I then used a sling with my engine hoist to support the rear of engine, and all went well.
