1950 Paint

Postby Brian50 » Mon Sep 16, 2013 8:41 am

Just had my tank repainted with PPG 71310, listed for the 1961 and newer Cubs, and it looks a lot more orange than the rest of the tractor, even parts that I scrubbed up.

My wife is pretty good with colors and grew up around her grandfather's Farmalls. She is very firm that it should be a darker red.

Since there don't seem to be any codes for the mid-1949's through the mid-1961's, I'm thinking of going with the PPG 70019, listed for the prior to mid-1949 Cubs. Is that a darker shade?

Any suggestions on my dilemma? Thanks!

Below is a link to a discussion on that topic.

Personally, I used IH 2150 Red to repaint my 48 Cub and have been quite satisfied. It is readily available at most IH Dealers and not too expensive. I have heard that in time it will fade from exposure to the sun, but I keep my tractor in a garage, when not in use. After two years, it still looks good.
