Hi. That is an excellent video.

A couple of observations I've made with my 152 that show up in your video.

#1. the scraper blade is VERY important to turn over the soil. I don't thing the 152 can turn over the soil very well without the scraper blade set correctly. Yours does an excellent job of turning the soil.

#2. listen to the engine/governor kick in about 1/2 way through the video when the front tire is in the outer part of the old furrow. That is when you are getting maximum bite with the blade. In tough dirt a thinner cut is easier than a thick cut and that is determined by where the disk is mounted on the frame, and where the front wheel is driven in the furrow.

#3. The bottom (deep part) of the land-side of the furrow is scalloped instead of vertical (like a moldboard). I don't know what this means except that it seems to make it hard to have both moldboards and disk plows at the same plow day.

I just got a good shape 1 bottom cub moldboard and I'm anxious to try it and compare to the disk plow. I'm not trying to start any controversy, just some observations I've made with my 152.

Re: point #1, my scraper has been laying in the garage longer than I can remember. Mostly it hit and bent brake pedal and floor board. Probably because someone (not me) kept the lift chain too short. Have not missed it.

I have a "Hester" brand, plow, similar to the 152. I'm impressed with what it can turn over. (Like 5 foot tall Sudan Sorgham hybrid, cover crop!) Disk plows are rare in New England, probably because of rocky soil. Since my soil is not rocky, it does a great job!
(In my next life, I'm getting one, 50 years sooner!)

I agree. Only time you need the scraper would be in sticky soil.

The 152 is going to shine in tough ground, or land with a lot of trash that would plug a moldboard plow.

Thanks for sharing that video, really nice! I just got my 152 a few weeks ago and have only made a couple passes around the outer edges of the garden with it. I got mine mowed off yesterday so I'll look forward to getting it turned under in a few weeks. So far I love mine...

Doesn't need to be mowed. I plow 5 to 6 foot tall vegetation, with mine!

Dusti, how are you plowing ? Outside-in, inside-out, both sides to the middle, both sides out or all one way? Confused yet? And don't forget all uphill!

No, I plow from the middle, laying both sides to the middle...that's the way Poppy taught me when I was a kid. I just made a couple passes up one side where the lettuce and spinach were. Beans and corn was still up in the rest of it.

Ed, I'm sure you could plow deep stuff. I just prefer to mulch all my beans, corn, maters, whatever is left...mulch it all up, let it set a few weeks, then turn it under..
