Farmall Cub

Hi all, I'm hopefully getting a 100 manure spreader this week, the woods pretty rotten been sitting awhile. I found it when I was picking up a three point hitch harrow for the farm, saw it resting in the bushes.I talked to the owner and I couldn't pass up the price of a couple of steaks in trade. . When I get the spreader home is there anything I should look for that would deem the spreader not fit to be restored.Thanks

As long as the sheet metal and metal parts are salvageable the wood part is easy.

I figured the wood is the easier part. I am hoping the metal in good shape, I only had a quick moment to look at it in the bushes . I was wondering if you can still get the bed chain . I'm not familiar with the workings of a ground driven spreader, on the farm we've only had pto driven. I was wondering if they have any weak points that need any special attention when I'm going over it to decide if it is restorable. Thanks for the info Cecil. Maybe if I get it in time I can bring it up to the Cubfest so we can look it over . Thanks

Check that gears and drive sprockets are intact. Don't know if the apron is available. The flat chain is, so, in a pinch, you could fabricate the apron . Sheet metal shouldn't be difficult to replace, except for belt guards.

I saw the guards off and laying on the ground next to the spreader under some leaves, so my hopes are not to high for them .

Rich, A new bed chain (if still available) will run about $400. There is a farm supply near me that has both the flat links and crosslinks in case you have trouble finding them. You'll need to loosen the front "tightening" sprockets before you remove the bed chain. If you don't know how to do that, ask, as it is a simple procedure if done properly. There are manuals available to download here for the 100.

Thanks Bob I haven't got it yet but I can't wait to jump into this project !!I'll have plenty of questions coming soon . May need the contact on the bed chain supplier, I'll have to see what it needs first other than a new paint job, the baby blue paint job it has is quite disturbing .

Aw, come on leave it baby blue.
Reasons;
1. You'll have the only one like it at ANY show you go to.
2. NOBODY is EVER gonna "accidentally load it".
3. It will be the most talked about piece of equipment at any show.
4. Honestly, after about the first dozen or so shined up restored tractors or equipment, don't you find yourself pausing at the stuff in work clothes and just going on past the restored ones????????

I'll try to pick it up this week so that I can bring it up to Cecil place, he puts on a great cubfest.
Scrivet you make some valid points, but it just seems wrong but you never know it may grow on me

Suggestion: take plenty (and I mean plenty) of pictures before you disassemble and during each stage of disassembly. Those pictures will be worth their weight in gold when it comes to reassembly time. The diagrams in the Owner's Manual are helpful, but your photos will fill in the missing puzzle pieces. If you don't have them already, the Owner's Manual is located via the link at the top right of this page ("Manuals").

I've almost got my 100 back together. It's been a fun project.

things could be worse than baby blue.

This was an old ad when I came across it and had a sale in progress. I haven't heard back so I guess it sold. If the ad gets pulled or craigslist prunes it the spreader is green with yaller wheels. Vern

Green and yellow would be worse . Stanton do you plan on using or showing your spreader ? I was thinking of using mine if I can get it going ,but afraid of breaking it.

Mine will be strictly show. Many of the apron links are well worn (thin) in spots and wouldn't take much use before they broke. Besides, the way I'm painting it up, it'd look too pretty to fling manure around.

Got any pictures of yours?
