TIE RODS

Postby superc_1 » Tue Jun 07, 2005 3:21 pm

ARE THER TWO DIFFERENT LENGHT OF TIE RODS?. THE SET ON MY TRACTOR SEEM TO BE SHORTER THAN THE USED ONES I BROUGHT AND THEY SEEMED TO BE ADJUSTED ALL THE WAY IN ALREADY. CAN YOU CUT THE OUTER TUBE OFF AND SHORTEN? I WOULD TRADE ANYBODY THE LONGER ONES FOR A GOOD PAIR OF SHORT ONES. THEY ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, JUST NEED A LITTLE MASSAGING TO STRAIGHTEN.
No matter where you go, there you are.

There are two different sets of rods usually encountered... an adjustable rod for the adjustable front axles and a fixed length for the non-adjustable. Maybe yours simply need to be adjusted in one 2" step.

On the other hand, there may have been a longer set especially for the fairly rare hi-crop/wide option. Jim Becker will have the answer for that. If Jim replies, take his answer to the bank.

I know of 8 different Cub tie rods. Some of them are obviously different, others not.

Farmalls with non-adjustable axle.
Farmalls with adjustable standard width axle.
Farmalls with high-wide option.
Early Lo-Boys with non-adjustable axle.
Early Lo-Boys with adjustable axle.
Lo-Boys with non-adjustable axle and cross-over tie rods.
Lo-Boys with adjustable axle and cross-over tie rods.
Lo-Boys with 105 mower.

There were 2 versions of the solid tie rod that slides into the tube. One for the Farmalls and another for the Lo-Boys.

I haven't measured them to see how much difference there is.
