Grader blade measurements

Postby Fireman Bob » Thu Oct 10, 2013 6:20 pm

Hello all,
I have been lurking around the site for several months now and just read the rules and information so I thought I would try my first post :0
Have just bought a 1955 Cub and am having a great time with the restoration.
First I want to thank you regular posters for all the courteous and super accurate information that I have needed so far during the resto, you guys clearly know your Cubs! The archives are a great source of info.
So I dont ramble on my question is on the grader blade. can someone give me the length of the main long pivot arms that are made out of 1 1/2 " square tubing? (P/O and a cutting torch....not a pretty thing)
Also some rough dimensions on the "C" shaped piece that mounts to the reversed drawbar for when the blade is in the belly mount position? Maybe just the length of the two side pieces that hang down where the pivot pin goes through and where the pin hole is drilled on it.
I have searched the pdf files on this and the "other" sites and havent been able to find these.
Now lets see if I can show you a picture of "code red" as it is now:-)
Thanks in advance for your help.

For clarification, is the "C" shaped piece you mention the one that is mounted in the middle of the drawbar in this pic?

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Hi Barnyard,
Yup,thats the piece. If you can just detail the side parts that hang down then I can figure the rest.
Then the lenghths of the two long arms that attach to that part.
Thanks again for your help!

Thanks midmo,
I have looked through all these drawings before but maybe I missed them so Ill check again
I dont think its common for someone to torch cut the main pivot arms in half.......not even leaving me with something to use as a pattern.

I had to make one of those too. The PO welded mine to the front mount bracketry, where it would normally be bolted together. I'll measure the sq. tubing and the C bracket. I'll post it later if someone else doesn't or hasn't.

Here ya go Bob,

The 1 1/2" tubing is 28 1/2" long, heavy wall, probably .320" The C shaped piece is 1/2" X 2" plate about 15" oal, doglegs are 3" down from the top and the outside edge of the doglegs is 8 7/8" wide (just short of 9"). The spacing for the mounting holes in the top of the 2" plate is 4" on center and centered between the edges, holes to match the drawbar. The 1" holes on the sides of the doglegs are 2" to the centerline of the hole from the top edge, leaving a 1/2" from the bottom to the edge of the hole. Hope that's what you need.

My homemade substitute fast hitch drawbar. Would also work with regular cub cultivator back mounts.http://photos.cubfest.com/displayimage.php?pos=-8119

I just bent the C bracket to the size I needed in a vise and the ol' heat wrench, although cutting and fitting it together may be a more accurate way to build it.

Glad to do it.
