Farmall Cub

so last year I added this brace to the front axle of the cub my Wagner loader is on.


I am pretty careful as to the treatment I give it, but was still uncomfortable about the rearward pressure put on the front axle pivot tubes if you ran over something or dropped a front wheel into a hole while carrying a load with it. the best thing I could think of was a wishbone running form the front spindles to a pivot under the torque tube like you see on many of the 50s and 60s wide front, such as the Fords, etc. but that was a little beyond my abilities, so I finally settled for adding a couple of gussets at the point where the vertical tube welds into the horizontal one.


it is not pretty, but should strengthen that weak spot some. I might not worry about that particular spot, but I have seen several spindles that have been broken loose tright there, and welded back, though frequently not properly aligned first. These were not on rigs with loaders, either.

That is a good idea john, I have never seen one that has been damaged, But I have always thought the front ends were a little under size for what they go through.

I have a welded front axle. Both sides. One owner, no loader, lol.

That's interesting John. Looks like something I would do! Ricky's right, you'll be in Bobs next video! You're right about the lateral stress of hitting something. Reinforcing that would require another center pivot point which would probably interfere with most belly or front mount attachments. Your bracing will definitely help with the vertical loads.

Interfering with belly mount attachments is not much of a concern with the loader mounted. It came with a pump off a 154, so there is no touch control, and you have to get on and off over the rear, so the hand lift would be a problem. When using this particular loader (WM-1 Wagner), it is pretty much a one use tractor.

Right - I was kinda thinking out loud. I was imagining doing this on a non loader Cub.

Maybe you could fab something and hang it from the bosses where the hand lift rockshaft would bolt on the torque tube, then go with your pivot/wishbone idea Just a thought.
