Try charging the battery with one of the older battery chargers.

I have a newer digital, assume with some sort of computer chip, charger. If the battery is depleted to far, this battery charger will not work, but the older battery chargers will.

it works great with the new battery. Discharges with the lights turned on and the generator is charging. I was watching the ammeter as it started and it actually took a couple of seconds before it moved off zero. Thanks for everyones advice. Ill start working on the old battery this week to see if I can get it going in the right polarity.

New battery installed and it works great. Discharges when it should when lights are on and charges with the engine running so I got the polarization done right! I sure have learned a lot this week. Old battery is presently discharging through the 12V lights on my trailer.

Ran the battery with a load for about a week. It started charging ok, but didnt hold voltage for more than a day. Think it is damaged and some shorting between plates. I think it is toast.
