...how any of you have removed the Differential Inner Shaft Retainer from the left side (cf. TC-37 Parts Catalog [5-2-49], page 39, item #2)? It's recessed in the transmission case enough that I couldn't get it out. The right side protrudes enough to get hold of it.

There's an O-ring I was going to replace (#7), but couldn't.

Stanton, I removed them both one time to drive out the seals from the back side but don't remember having any trouble. Just took out the bolts and kind of rotated it back and forth and pulling out. Take note of the shims after removal.

If You Carefully Twist It, You Can Catch A Small Nail Puller Under The Bolt Flange And Work It Loose. Be Careful Not To Pry Too Hard In One Location, Move Around The Perimeter. Thats How I Removed Mine Several Times. Also Be Mindful Of The Shims.

Most of them are not too hard to get out, but some are. I have a 5 pound slide hammer puller that works great on them.http://www.harborfreight.com/16-piece-h ... 60327.html

they are pretty easy to remove.. I have removed a lot of them over the years. right side from the back take a brass punch then tap it out from the inside
once that one is out you can tap on the differential carrier to remove the left one.
