Farmall Cub

I don't recall that component belonging to a Cub, at least not the carburetor. It looks the part of a faucet aerator that sits above the diffuser, back when they were made from brass instead of plastic.

I was thinking it was the orifice of the metering valve that came loose and was sucked up through the throttle body.

I'm willing to bet Jack nailed it. If it turned on edge in the cylinder the piston could have easily folded it in half as it pushed the piece against the bottom of the head. I'd say pull the metering jet and see if it's all there.

Impossible, on many levels.

That object was more likely to have recently found it's way past the throttle plate via the air intake, fell in an open spark plug hole or accidently included before or during head installation.

Looks like the tip of a metering jet......but I'm not missing any.

I don't think it would have fit through the spray nozzle.

I can't lay claim to being uber meticulous, but I'm fairly cognizant as to not let foreign objects fall or get misplaced into an engine or component. My guess it was lodged in the manifold and the perfect combination of heat, suction and vibration dislodged it. I've never cut the end off a metering jet, and not sure why anybody would but you never know, but it does resemble it. I happy to say the tractor is back together and running as good as ever. Just a weird one for sure.

Some thoughts...

The pressed in orifice in the main metering jet is thicker and smaller in diameter than the object in Harold's hand appears to be. Besides, there's no way for an object that size to have moved from it's installed position to a combustion chamber.

If the small hole in the object is round and centered, the object appears to have two different radii for each folded half. I realize that the radii could have been modified inside the engine over time, but it seems unlikely that the object would have gotten folded exactly in half.

I'm leaning toward a missing part from an ancient compression tester.

It looks like part of the fitting on the crank case breather tube that runs from the front end of the block up to the fresh air inlet pipe.

my best guess, it is the weep hole blug in the bottom of the carburator. I have seen on IH carbs where people have driven them into the carb trying to get them out thus braking the little lip off that is to keep the plug from getting into the carburator.only other thing it can be is the air metering valve off the choke butterfly.. On a IH carb it is smaller so I think it could be from the later zeneth.

OK if your not going to believe my UFO post, I'm going to have to go with compression tester....Due to all the evidence presented... Or Not....

My vote is it's from a compression tester.
My grandfather had one years ago similar to this one that had a rubber tip, and if my memory serves me correctly, there was a small metal end on the rubber.

had to go out and look at my old compression tester---yep it's got that similar piece on the end of it!!
