oil filters
Well, it is time to change oil in the herd and I found I only have 2 filters. Where does everyone buy their filters by the case and who gets the best price? Barnyard had a good source once and sent it to me but with my usual sharp as a tack memory, it has long been forgotten. I need to get at least 12. All input will be greatly appreciated.

Re: oil filters
I get my Cub oil filters from the local auto parts store. Might ask for a case discount. If I wanted a case, I'm sure they would have them in stock the next day.
Living way out in the sticks, it's usually cheaper to order items from local venders than having to pay shipping, or driving 26 to 30 miles one way to the big city.

I have to agree with Eugene. Try your local parts house and see what they will do for you. The source I use to have has shut down and no longer is in business.

Just for a rainy day conversation...And I'm " Not advocating" this...But back in the old days with that style filter I remember the old boys cleaning them and reusing them...I often wonder when I change oil if they were designed to re use...I may have to take a hack saw to one... ....Please no stone throwing.... Re: oil filters
I think it's pretty safe to say that today's filters aren't designed to be cleaned and re-used. The cost of the filter is low, compared to the cost of the potential consequences of not replacing them at every oil change. I do, however, clean and re-use the paper air filter on my JD lawn mower until it gets so dirty that it needs replaced. It's amazing how quickly they get plugged with grass and dust.

Re: oil filters
Does the Napa filter have the gasket with it? I bought a FRAM filter recently at my local Autozone, and it did not have the gasket with it. That was odd to me.
Do you all clean out the tube at the time of your oil change as well? Amazing how much crud settles out in that tube!

NAPA filters have the gasket.
But check the box when you get it to make sure it wasn't robbed from it.

Re: oil filters
For the past few years, I've been using Purolator filters in most everything. I get them from Advance Auto, dealing with their comm. accounts desk. They usually have to special Cub filters, but the price is worth it if you're buying several at a time. There are 2 Purolator numbers for the Cub filter, one with the gasket and the other without. If I remember correctly, 1153 includes the gasket and 1154 does not. I used to use NAPA (Wix) but NAPA filter prices have gotten much too high. If you like the Wix filter, you might check with O'reilly's, probably cheaper than NAPA.

A friend of mine had a truck. He used rolls of toilet paper for the oil filter. It ran fine at 3000,000 miles.

Might want to research the topic before you use toilet paper as an oil filter. Not a good idea.torchred89 wrote:A friend of mine had a truck. He used rolls of toilet paper for the oil filter. It ran fine at 3000,000 miles.
