Farmall Cub

I had a 89 corvette that wouldn't start. The horn and lights worked. But when you turned the key nothing not even a click. I spent all day trying to figure it out. I finally went on the vette forum. A guy said to take electric cleaner and clean the key. I cleaned the key and it fired right up. Who would of ever thought to clean the key.

I do not know what they are doing now, but Chevrolet for several years had a resister built into the key with a contact on each side that the ignition switch read, and if it was not the right value resister for that vehicle it would not start.

the way the inlet sticks up out of the bottom of the tank that may not have been enough gas to feed the carb when it was going up the ramps. I learned that lesson the hard way a few years ago. Normally the carb would have enough fuel in it to run up the ramps, but if it is already low in the bowl it may not.

no it quit on the level before I started backing on the trailer. come to think of it, I gave the fuel tank a little mouth to mouth, but that pressure didn't dislodge the needle. Jay had worked on the carb, so I suspect it's a nitrile type needle

Well I got a chance to take off the carb, the shaft actually looks pretty good.



and I was able to straighten and rework the clamp so I think I got a late Christmas present from the cub santa.

Now its time to make up a metal fuel line for it since the original owner had some rubber in there, I have to look around but I think I remember someone posting a picture with lengths of bends.

Does any one know what the fitting at the carb is called or have any info on them?

Tom, The threading is 1/2" x 20. It's a compression fitting for 5/16" steel line (brake line). Auto parts stores should have them, or you can order two from TM Tractor when they reopen on Monday. The sediment bowl takes the same fitting.

Couple of weeks ago Ethan and I were going to get the cub out to do some grading and turn some of the garden. I had cranked it till the cows were walking up in the yard when Ethan says "Paw, maybe you need to turn the key on". Fired right up!

There is sure truth in the old troubleshooting rule, check the easy/simple stuff first!

Going up a fairly steep trail was a bad time to remember to check the fuel before you leave the barn.

More than one time I have had to turn the cub around and back up a hill to get back to the shed. Turned the old snappers around too (left side in ditch=fuel below outlet).
