Trimmed Dash Update

Two weeks ago I saw a Cub for sale a few miles from stopped to check it out. It turned out to be a 1948 with the trimmed dash so I wrote down the serial number to add to the trimmed dash database (no, I didn't buy it). Then a few days ago Sgt Bull sent me the serial number of a trimmed dash Cub he found some time ago. It too has been added to the database. As of today we have accounted for 32 of these Cubs. If any of you newer Members have one let me know.

Bill, I am curious about the trimmed dash. Do they appear to be consecutive serial numbers or occur off and on over a period of time?

Tom, they were all consecutive numbers from what we have found. There have been no long ear dashes found with serial numbers in the range we are tracking.

More info is here http://www.savethecub.com/dash.htm

Bill,

Serial number 38517 with a trimmed dash is on eBay. The link is:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123
The seller sent the serial number to me.

Thanks Tom, I entered the info on my list. Unfortunately the ones on Ebay can be hard to track if the seller does not reveal where the Cub is going when sold.

Out of curiosity just why would you need to track where they go? Isn't serial number and the fact that it has a trimmed dash about the extent of any usable information. Possibly where it is now to see if there is any geographic distribution? But if it shows up again you'll already have recorded that serial number. Do you need to track where they go for some recall in the offing from IH???? :? :D

Gee, you never know when Case IH might want to replace the dash with the correct one. Actually geographic distribution is all that is needed to get an idea where they went from the factory. In reality, there is no way of knowing if their present location is the same as where they were originally. One of mine came from northern Indiana and the other came from northern Ohio and who is to say they didn't go somewhere else after leaving the plant before getting to those points. The reason for tracking was more to just get an idea as to where they are located.
