Coil + & - Wiring

Postby BIGHOSS » Sat Dec 21, 2013 11:29 am

What is a simple rule of thumb for wiring polarity of a coil? Is it, "if the battery is positive ground, connect ignition wire to -minus on coil and hook wire to distributor to +plus post".

Or is it the other way around? I seem to stay confused alot lately.

You have it correct. the points ground the coil, so the + term goes to the distributor if system is positive ground. Of course for negative ground it is the opposite. The coil will work wired either way, but my personal experience has been the coils do not last as long if reversed.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Yep. This is how my first cub was wired 6 years ago. Well it's not mine anymore I gave it to my sister. She has been using it for 2 years now around her homestead. She has gotten more use out of it in 2 years than I did in the 4 years I had it. It was sitting in the shed so I knew she could use it so it went to her. She enjoys the little tractor very much. She uses it to bush hog around her place.
