Re: Cold
What a wicked swing in temperature. Where we are in central Ontario it was 40 and rain at 5:30. Three hours later its 25 and going down to around 0 tonight with wind chills making it feel close to -30. People around here have been experiencing "frost quakes" with large temperature fluxuations.

Re: Cold
The temperature change has done frosted my Cub in place. It was out under a tree and the weather warmed up to soften the ground. Temps dropped and now the wheels on the back are frozen solid in the ground. Hopefully the warm temperatures this weekend will soften it up again and I can get it moved to drier ground!!
By the talk on the news, you would think that the world was ending in Pittsburgh with the temps going down to -4 or -5 tonight. We regularly had that in Swissconsin when I was up there. That being said, I'd prefer to be warm versus cold at this point...

I know what you mean Mike. I was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota, so this Pittsburgh weather is much better, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Come on spring!

That brings to mind a safety tip that I unfortuneately don't utilize enough but is worth mentioning to everyone.Hengy wrote:The temperature change has done frosted my Cub in place. When the weather is such that the tractor could be frozen to the ground you should always try moving the tractor in reverse first.
Reason being that if you go forward first, and the rear wheels are frozen to the ground, the front end can come up and flip the tractor over the rear axle. Starting in reverse will try to push the front end into the ground if the rear wheels are frozen.

Re: Cold
Checked the A/F in the cub, -30, I think that will do. Put a heater in the well house. Just wondering about pipes in unheated crawl space.

Woke up this morning to -24 and -44 wind chill. The governor closed all schools statewide today. The superintendent closed them tomorrow, supposed to be a repeat of today.

Re: Cold
STUCK! in Aspen!!!! A private plane crashed in Aspen airport Sunday PM, closing the airport. that, coupled with the cold and snow in Chicago has made for impossible travel back home. oh well, I guess i'll just have to stay and ski some more. unfortunately, there was one fatality in the aspen crash and the plane sits next to the only runway. NTSB and the manufacturer are on the scene, but a 30 knot intermittent crosswind that day is probably the cause. we might get out Wednesday by taking a bus to Denver...I'm booked through to Bradley after that. this has been quite a weather winter
