Late Cub Battery Size and Terminal Locatiions?

Putting correct sized batteries in my 77 and 78 to fix the battery boxes back with the lids, what size and does the positive go to the front or rear? Also the ground cables bolt directly under the battery does anyone know if they run behind the battery or in front? Guess the post location will determine that. Thanks in advance.

This is how my '53 is which is pretty close to the stock layout. The OEM ground strap wasn't braided like mine but I like the braided style ground strap. The negative cable clamp I got from an auto parts store and soldered it to the battery cable. The OEM cable clamp had been replaced at one time so I'm not sure exactly what it originally was but the right angle clamp worked perfectly for my application.

That would be correct Ricky with two round right angle cables. When I replace the ground on mine I will use BigDogs idea. Braided cable bolted to axle housing under battery. I'm sure there's a link on here somewhere.

Mine is just like ricky racers. I did solder a heavy gauge wire to the braided cable and ran it to a bell housing bolt. No problems yet.

I use a Group 26R in both of mine. Braided ground strap per BigDog's how-to.

PS: Not sure where that how-to went, but it used to be here.

I can never find this when I need it. I have to figure out how to get this in the How To forum.

Are the later 12v Cubs hooked up similarly?

Hi,
On the Cubs with 12 volt systems, the battery cables were different at the battery than a 6 volt system. The cable to the starter was at the front, then the ground was a strap at the rear. I found a pic in the owner's manual showing how it was originally. Can't see there where the ground strap went, but maybe to a battery box bolt. You don't want it sticking up, or the battery will be sitting on the bolt head. Click on the pic makes it bigger, you probably knew. :)

Braided ground straps with both ends having bolt holes are available. While I have not yet done it, using one of those on the exterior of the box from the bolt for the cable inside to a bolt on the transmission would be good, technically speaking. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Where do you get them & what sizes are available? I need something like that for my Super A's. The stock configuration is a short ground cable that bolts inside the battery box; I have never had much faith in that setup. I want to ground down on the frame somewhere, while trying to hide my modification!

What's weird is the late cubs ground straps mount to battery box bolts, but there is still a hole for the earlier style ground strap to bolt to the box itself.
