a few weeks ago i had the cub in for a fluid change and a couple little fixes.. when she went back out she was noticeably snappier and more responsive than she's ever been. there are two things i think it could have been: I swapped the battery terminals (it's original 6 volt and the PO had hooked it up negative ground and it wasn't charging), and I cleaned the air cleaner (which i hadn't done in an embarrassingly long time).
I'm leaning toward the air cleaner being responsible, but i wonder.. the only other things i did were engine oil, gear oil, and sediment bowl.

Air flow restricted or fuel flow restricted, fixing either or both would make a big difference. The things not so much.

My guess is a plugged air filter that will make a slug out of an engine ,,,,,,,,,Want to see a big improvement in performance ,if youve never adjusted the valves give that a shot , a valve asjustment sure woke up my Cubs
