Tach for Cub's ?

Postby Rudi » Thu Jun 16, 2005 10:06 am

George and all:

Got a question  :D

I am using my Sunpro for now, but I was wondering about this particular hand held tachometer. STEWART WARNER PORTABLE HAND TACHOMETER 757 W CAN.

Is this a fair price :?: How much higher would still be fair :?: Is this a good hand held tach for measuring rpm's via the PTO :?:

Input would be highly appreciated....  :D

Be sure and find out if the rubber tips are included. I think there are 2 or 3 different kinds. One is pointed and the other is concave. I don't know how hard replacements are to find, but I would make sure they are included.
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

Tach is available new from McMaster-Carr for ~ $60.00. A package of the two rubber tips is also available there for ~ $5.00. A very usefull item.

I will keep them in mind if I can't find one locally for my needs.

Eastwood has a phototachometer that I used to set idle and max rpm on our '48 Cub

Rudi,

I used my Kasler tackometer at CubFers to check quite a few Cubs. In one case W.K. Poor used his inductive tach to check the same tractor at the same time at varying speeds to see how they compared. They were very close, but his gave an instantaneous reading while mine had to go through a count-down each time. It would be interesting to know a price range for his type.

I found mine at a garage sale at a real bargain (I rarely go to garage sales). I've had it for a few years but inside the case was a catalog page clipping that shows it listed for $320.38. I have no idea how long ago it sold for that price.

Thanks Larry Hoenig. I have been wanting to do this for a long while but never seen to get to it. Now it is ordered. Got so many Larry's we have to say which one.
