I too keep the batteries charged with a battery minder type charger and they work very nicely. A maintenance reminder is to check the level of the electrolyte/water. It seems the 6 volt systems batteries tend to need filled regularly. If they are run with low levels for long it helps to prematurely kill a battery.

Ron, have you checked the acid level a time or two to make sure it is not overcharging? If it is it will be low on acid regularly. One of these load testers can be a handy item, and it will also tel you if the battery is being charged at the right voltage. The scales are color coded both for 6 volt and 12 volt batteries, and all it takes is just a glance to see if charging or cranking voltage is within acceptable range. They can be purchased anywhere from $20 to $50 depending on store and sale.
