Farmall Cub

Hello...I have noticed alot of you guys, and Gals naming your Cubs'...just wondering how you are coming up with these names..
I currently have three Cubs, ( My first the original family Cub since 1959...), all without names....Suggestions on naming I suppose is my question....

I've never found a need to name my Cubs, besides they will not come to me if I call them by name. Sometimes my dog won't come either.

Naming tractors is a very personal thing. All my tractors are named for either neighbors or people from whom I purchased them (also neighbors).

'47 Circle Cub -- "Nellie" (wonderful neighbor lady whom I loved and respected greatly; now passed)
'48 Cub -- "Gene" (Nellie's husband; the tractor is rough around the edges and needs a major overhaul; so did he, but I liked Gene immensely; great neighbor; now passed)
'49 Cub with Grosshart Post Hole Digger -- "Walter" (purchased from neighbor two doors up from me; his personality got down under a lot of people's skin; though I enjoyed the visits we had; helped me pull the Cub out of his fencerow and load; just passed last month)
'45 H -- "Paul" (newest addition to the fleet, not really sold on a one syllable name, but a great neighbor down the road from me)

Since I like my tractors, I named them for people I liked as well. You don't have to name your tractors. Don't feel like you're being left out or something. Some people just call them by the year (i.e. the '50, or the '48, etc.). I think if you're of a certain mindset, you'll name 'em. Otherwise, I wouldn't think about it.

I can't give you any suggestions, well I guess I could but I won't. I will say that sometimes there's something unique about a tractor or if you have more than one (like you) there is a theme. TV show character themes seem popular and sometimes family member names are used.

To be honest I used to think that naming tractors was sort of silly. Now that I have multiples, I can see where it has a certain usefulness just to be able to tell the difference between them. My Cub I sometimes refer to as "the paperweight" because when I got it, that was about all it was good for. Of my 4 Super As two of them have names--Old Ugly, my working tractor, because it is very, very ugly, and Old Whitey, because it's a white demo. It's all personal preference when it comes to names, anything is better than calling one "That @##$# Tractor!"

I'm with Super A. Mainly if you have multiples referring to the "Cub" or the "red one" doesn't do much to identify which one you are talking about. Of course once you name them you have to remember which one is which

My 4 year old daughter named our tractors " Harry" the Cub and "Betty Red Belly" the 8N!

I echo Bobs' suggestion. Children are creative and remarkably perceptive at hooking an appropriate name to a vehicle.

As to why I name my vehicles, it is because my father named everything, so I'm carrying on a family tradition.

Just remember though - even though you can give them masculine names (like my Eddie), they are still feminine in gender.

The CUBINATOR was named by a foriegn exchange student I hosted a few years back. He loved mowing on that old tractor and was convinced that it was the most powerfull mower on the planet! He said it was the cub equivilent of the terminator. Shortened to the CUBINATOR.

I have MANY names for my 52 CUB [ when it won't start] !!

I have always put names on my tractors, but I don't know why My present Cub is called "Ardee" because that is the name of the town in Co. Louth, nearest where I bought it.

I don't name my tractors, but last summer when I was washing my Cub, my neighbors 6 year old son asked me what the name of my tractor was. I had to think fast (yeah right) and told him "little red". He ran over to his Dad and told him the name of my tractor. I can see that boy owning a Cub or two in the future.
