Farmall Cub

I spent 3 months trying to get mine to run right. did carb work, plugs, wires, fiddled with everything. finally rebuilt the magneto and when she fired right up and ran great Maggie ( get it magneto - Maggie ) was born

There are no CUB's older than me...
Even my 1947 is 5 years my junior.
Before I got sidelined for several years by health problems including a dicky ticker (now all better) my 1947 CUB was known fairly widely as "Major" (this is a bit of a trip). That was not any kind of rank. The name is a kind of a tip of the hat to a local author of many years ago. While one of his books was made into a movie by Disney (When Knighthood Was In Flower) he was better known locally by a book titled "The Bears Of Blue River". The main character was a fictitious local pioneer boy named Balser Brent. A statue of Balser stands yet today on our public square holding up two bear "cubs" from the story. Are you seeing what is developing here. The name of the local author was Charles "Major".

My old friend George Willer was fond of "Major" (the CUB, not the writer) and used to frequently tell me that I should never paint Major since it was such an original 1947. So far I have not painted it but may now that George is gone. Or, I may not. (shrug) I miss George... I knew George before he held the first CUBFEST. Am I right? Was it 2003? I enjoyed it so much that we hosted the second one, 2004? here at the farm in Central Indiana.
I am planning on making a few CUB events this year. I believe that The Barnyard Bash is the earliest one not so far from me. I don't know what is next, I believe the Ohio CUB-tug is in August.

Always name your Cubs (and milk cows, molly mules, etc.) after women you find attractive. That way, when your wife says, "You said the name Raquel last night in your sleep!".....well you have an out.

My son was 3 and into Thomas the Train very much. The red tractor on there was "Jack". So when I brought our little Cubby home, he became "Jack".

And now, we are getting ready to go pick up a '57 Lo-Boy I just bought. So we are thinking about names for it. Thinking Jill to go with Jack. But we will have to see.

My dad's 8n was named "Crackhead". I know you think it was because of a mechanical condition.... but it was named after the previous owner. He was in jail for meth production when we bought it from his wife. It was missing a grill and his wife said it looked like him after loosing his teeth. SAD STORY!!!

Mine is named Alic after an ex girlfreind that I love to see working. But when it wont start, I have several other names that I cant post here.

Rex '48 was named after the farm dog we had when we got the cub in 1965. Princess '55 is named for another farm dog from my youth. I don't name the H's, Cadet's or Farmall Regular - just my Cub's - Not sure just seemed like a good idea at the time....
