Hi all. I recently adjusted the clutch on my fcub. It worked flawlessly for a few hours of plowing. Then it started to grind the gears when shifting again. Did I not adjust the clutch enough or is the clutch going out completely?

When you say you adjusted the clutch, did you adjust the fingers or the pedal?

The fingers and then the pedal. At least what made sense with the pedal.

It hasn't gotten any worse the last 5-8 hours of plowing. It still grinds a little if I let it sit out of gear and try to shift or when shifting from r/1st or 2nd/3rd just based on the time it is out of gear. If it is going I want to get the parts now so I can have it when I need it.

Is the graphite face on the throw out bearing in good condition? You may want to take a look now and see how it is.

Dry pilot shaft bushing. Just a thought.

Won't know what the problem is until the inspection is completed. Suggest not buying parts until the problem or problems is/are determined.

Bottom of torque tube is a hand hole. Open the hand hole, with flash or shop light inspect the throw out bearing. Photos of new and worn out throw out bearings available on this site.

The pilot bushing is located inside the flywheel. It can be lubricated without splitting the tractor. Again another web search of this site.

When I greased the TOB a few months ago( the first time in at least 15 years) it looked ok. I'll try to degrease the TOB again.

I have had hit and miss results from the search feature. I try searching for adjusting the clutch and see how many results you get!

Will look at the TOB with a light and a mirror if I can find one when I can. The backside (non clutch side) and outer edge look identical to the TOB shown in the photos.

The front side(graphite side is the critical side. You should not need a mirror for that.

I have never tried to lubricate the pilot bushing without splitting the tractor, but IIRC you back the tractor up some ramps, or elevate the rear some other way. Then, using a long tube (or several taped together, end to end) with the end at the center of the flywheel, spray some penetrating oil on the pilot bushing.

That's how I lubricate mine.

How often do you do that? Yearly?

I do mine when the gears start to grind. It's amazing how a lubricated pilot bushing will make it shift easier, if that's the problem. Mine probably gets done about once a year though.
