stuck bearing

Postby okiecub51 » Sun Feb 23, 2014 4:13 pm

I have been trying to get a bearing out of my cub transmission case, I can't drive it out. It is the rear roller bearing for the input shaft. I am hammering on it from the differential side of the trans case toward the shifter side of the transmission. If anyone knows any tips or tricks to get that bearing out I would appreciate it. Thanks.......okie :thanx:

It'll drive out either way. Same with the rear countershaft bearing.

Put the right size socket on the end of a long handle that extends through the front case bearing opening and give it a few whacks with a dead blow hammer.

Thanks for the picture Bill V that helps a lot, I'll try it that way. I'll need to remove one of the shifter fork and rail to get into it from that end. I'm a little nervous when it comes time to put shifter rail back, because of the poppet balls! Any advice on that? Thanks everyone. :thanx:

Just keep your thumb over the hole as you slide the rail out of the way, and make sure you have a magnet that can reach into the transmission case should one of the balls fall in there. I think it is a little harder to replace the poppet balls. Check out Rudi's "Tranny 101" in the HOW TO section under TRANSMISSION. I think Rudi used a drift pin to press the balls back into place. I used a round file (see photo). Good luck.
