Looked at a 59 cub today

Postby cadetpwr » Sun Jun 19, 2005 9:08 pm

Went and looked at a 1959 cub today, real clean, good rubber all the way around, under slung exhaust, new seals in the transmission, PTO has been rebuilt, 6v system, lights work, uses just a touch of oil, not really any blue smoke though, rebuilt generator. Was kept indoors for the past 11 years, worked on an orchard, owner got a bigger Kubota to run an air sprayer. Also has a 42 woods single blade mower deck. He wants 1500 for the tractor and mower deck, includes a 10amp 6v battery charger and a spare 6v battery. What do you all think? Its about $600 more than we wanted to spend, but its only about 5 miles or less from my house, I can drive it home rather than having to trailer it home. What is that mower deck worth? it has new gears and a new belt, real clean with no rust. Thanks MIke

It sounds to me like you better buy it. I know if I was closer I would. If you sell the mower you could get some of your money back.
If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use duct tape.

That sounds like a deal, especially since its close! I know when I bought mine, I paid more for it, but I drove her home!

Location has an impact on price but $1500 would seem a reasonable price in my area. If the mower is in good condition, it would probably be worth 300-350, bringing the price for the tractor to 1150-1200. Your description of the tractor indicates that you won't be putting money into tires or mechanical work in the near future and, since it was kept in dry storage when not in use, the metal and paint should be in good shape. The price seems very reasonable to me. Dan

I paid about that for my lowboy 15 years ago with a cycle bar mower. I am glad I bought it. Been used for grass only, till recently. Cost me $2.85 in parts first 10 years. I put new brakes in it about 5 years ago. I would give it a go if I were you.

By all means buy it, they bring a lot more than that in my area. They are fun little tractors.

cub progress

Postby cadetpwr » Mon Jun 20, 2005 10:07 pm

made some more progress on the 59 cub today, spoke with the owner again, he is an electrician and is out of town right now, He agreed with my idea of putting a grand down and the rest within 30 days. He wants to run it by his wife tomorrow when he gets home, says it souldnt be a problem, and I will know for sure by the end of the week. Cheers Mike
