Touch Control

Postby Edd_D » Thu Mar 13, 2014 9:48 pm

I think I know what the answer will be but here goes anyway.

I have completely rebuilt a 1951 Cub and have everything painted and ready to go back together. I just was thinking though, should I rebuild the Touch Control ? It is not giving me any problems at all (except a torn leather boot) . Seems like a shame to miss an opportunity since this Touch Control hasn't had any maintenance in over 60 years. What say ye experts?

By the way, this forum is great and I really appreciate all the help from you guys.

I always say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'd just change the fluid

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

I partially agree with the guys because the TC is a PITA to rebuild, but Murphy's Law applies here as well. You just know that when you put it back together and have all that pretty paint on it that the TC is going to leak all over that pretty paint. Then you'll have to take it off and redo it all over again and repaint/touch up nicks and cracks in the paint.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to go through it while it is off. If you take your time and keep everything clean, you will get it done and it will be good for another 50 years. You are redoing everything else anyhow, why not do the TC?

Just another opinion...

Given the requirements for extreme cleanliness and some special tools, I agree to replace the boot and be done with it.
