battery ground

Hello all
I'm trying to figure out what years of cubs had 6volt batteries and which had 12 volt batteries and which years had positive ground and which had negative ground. I'm a little confused on which had what. I have a 1971 cub I just got and I wanted to make sure it is right.

Hi Hoss. The change to 12v was made in the middle of 1964. I think you can ground whichever you'd like. I just make sure the connections are correct at the coil and then polarize the generator. I hope this helps!

all 6 volt from the factory were positive ground up to 63, all 12 volt cubs factory made are negative ground

I'd say it's a safe bet your 1971 is a 12 Volt negative ground system. I'm not sure which year they changed from gen to alt. I have a 1966 Cub that came with a gen and my 1976 came with an alt. Both are negative ground. Hope this sheds a little light on the subject, Thanks, Tom.
