Carb Question

Postby summerfi » Sun May 25, 2014 7:40 pm

Although my 1955 IH Cub LoBoy was running fine, the carb was leaking pretty badly. I installed a Steiner carb kit, following all directions. Now, there is fuel in the line leading to the carb, but no gas is getting into the fuel bowl. When I remove the drain plug on the bottom of the carb, it is bone dry. I've run the battery down a couple times cranking on it, but still no fuel in the carb. The screen at the fuel inlet is clear. What could be the problem?

Float needs adjustment or something is blocking fuel flow after the screen

If the new needle has a viton tip on it, they will sometimes stick. When you have it open to check the float height (if you need to), check to see if the needle drops when the float does.

In addition to what has been mentioned, do not overlook the screen just inside the fitting at the carb, but i would suspect float sticking or not adjusted properly. Maybe even dragging on the casket.

Thanks for the suggestions. It appears the issue is a sticking float. It almost seems like the brass shaft that the float hinges on is too big, keeping the float from moving freely. I'll look at it closer tomorrow.

Put the old needle and seat back in and adjust the float according to this diagram.
