Need Help Won't Start !

Postby Eiposito » Wed May 28, 2014 10:51 am

Hi All,

I'm new to site, need help getting a 1952 Farmall Cub to start.
Cub was restored a few years ago and unfortunately sat for a while without starting.
I changed plugs, fluids, new gas, new battery. Seems like block is frozen. Doesn't turn over. Don't have hand crank, just ordered one online. I will try to hand crank it.
Until then, I'm looking for someone in the Connecticut area who may have more knowledge and ability.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Oh man you're in Weston? Just checked your zip code. Could you be any farther away?! :P

Email me anyway and I'll throw you my phone number. Let's talk and I can lead you through a few things to check.

Mike - Just a note, if you want tell if the block is frozen pop your Cub in 1st gear, with the ignition button OFF (important) and give her a push from the rear wheels. If the wheels turn then the motor is turning. It's not the easiest thing to do but it can be done. You can also try to pull it from the draw bar with another lawn tractor or car. You don't have to pull it far. Just enough to see the wheels turn a bit.

Cub in 1st gear, with the ignition button OFF (important) and give her a push from the rear wheels.
3rd gear, easier to push or rock the tractor. You can also look to see if the fan is turning.
I have an excuse. CRS.

I stand corrected! Eugene is correct...I was thinking in my head if the lower gear would make it easier for the motor to turn but when you think about the gear I was backwards. Good catch!

Thanks for the help fellows,

I'll give it another try this weekend.

Just got done reading some of the trouble shooting and manuals that are posted on this great site.

Job well done.

Can't wait to here the sound of the flapper again!!

Heck you should be able to roll a Cub engine over with the fan if the belt is slightly tight...
