Rock Auto, Napa. What voltage are you looking for?

I bought a 6V regulator from O'Riely's for my Farmall 200. It was made by BWD and made in the USA. It has been doing well for a couple years now.

I would bet money all of the American made voltage regulators for the Cub are made by a single company.

Part numbers for a flat based 6V regulator
VR214 is the Standard Motor Products number
VR851 is the Napa part number (ECHLIN brand)
R195 is the BWD number

If you go to the BWD website, it uses the same picture as on the Standard Motor Products and has the Standard Motor Products in the bottom right corner of the webpage. The picture of the bottom of regulator shows the Napa part number VR851. I would buy any that I have listed above from whoever is cheaper assuming you need a flat based 6V regulator. Napa also carries a cheaper, offshore regulator that I would not recommend (VR851SB I believe)

FWIW, I have not had any better service from the more expensive NAPA VR than the cheaper one. Have you tried adjusting the air gap in the VR? When the second (US made) VR from NAPA failed after a couple years, I took a chance and adjusted the air gaps and it came back to life. Did the same with the cheap one and it came back to life also. Haven't gotten my round tuit to check the original yet.

Hi,
My Cub is 6 volts, and I've had it for years. Sometimes the regulator quits because the points get burned, or dirty after years of use. I've had success getting the regulator to work again by removing the cover and sanding the points, there's 2 sets of points in them, one on top of each coil of wire. Use really fine sandpaper, 400 grit or so, then wipe out all cuttings with a clean cloth run between the points. It won't work with any cuttings between the points. Sometimes the regulator still won't work, but sanding has worked for me several times. :)

ill try to clean the contacs up and see what happens.i had the cover off and every thing looked clean inside,do you have to set them like the points with a gap or just make sure the contacs are clean.

You have to set the air gap. I think it's .075, but check the manual.
