Hello,
I have a yellow 22 mower with some sort of collet holding the pitman arm to the wrist pin. I am stumped. How do I remove it to replace the pitman rod? I am only familiar with the left hand threaded nut holding the pitman to the wristpin. It is a collet with two holes drilled into it. Is this standard equipment? I can find no reference to it in the manual. the mower is in great condition, just has a cracked pitman. Thank you!

Nic, does it look like this?
I just removed the two set screws and pulled it off.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Barnyard,
Yes that is what it looks like. I would post a picture, but I do not know how to do it! I will see if I can get the set screws out. A friend told me he thought it was some sort of two piece eccentric locking ring. Nothing I am familiar with. I appreciate the help.

Re: Cub 22 mower
that is a bearing pressed on the shaft, it may just pry off if not to tight or use a bearing puller

Thank you. I have always wanted a bearing puller! Seems like a good enough reason. I wonder why they moved away from a simple lefthanded thread nut?

Re: Cub 22 mower
Final word on the mower (I hope). After drilling out the set screws, splitting the collar, and examining Barnyard's photo of his, I figured out the problem. The Pitman wrist had been installed behind the pressed bearing, preventing an easy removal. I ordered a puller, and will reinstall all the parts correctly. I will have a machine shop turn a new collet since the original is ruined. I saved the old one for a pattern. Thank you everyone for your interest.

that is a common bearing collet found on haybines and balers, even tractor supply stocks them, they are pretty cheap also

Once again, tst, and others, thank you for the information. I will look for one in my area before I have a shop fabricate one.

Re: Cub 22 mower
Also, the collar is machined with an eccentric recess that fits over a matching eccentric on the bearing's inner race. It fits loosely one way only.
Once the collar is on the bearing, you use a drift pin and a hammer to tap it around until it locks the bearing to the shaft.
