Red Power Showdown Howard Despeeder Auction

Postby Matt Kirsch » Sat Jun 14, 2014 3:51 pm

Good gravy, Marie... I have no idea if this is a Cub post or a Vine post or...

Anyway Dad and I were at the Red Power Showdown yesterday, and there was a Howard despeeder in the consignment auction that was scheduled for this morning.

Whoever it belonged to was making durned sure that none of the parts walked off. It was in a box with fine mesh wire screwed on so you could see the item but not touch it. Wonder if the box went with the item :)

Was anyone there for the auction? Any word on what it brought?

I was not there, but that box probably saved some parts. The seal plate, brake extension, and drawbar extensions are frequently missing, and impossible to get. chances of them disappearing without that box were pretty good.

I was there, but didn't see it. I left Friday morning, without rechecking the auction site.

Can the despeeder be used with the Cub fasthitch? Need to make spacers?

Yes it can, the original spacers will work if you have them. My despeeder did not have any extensions, and Rick Prentice made these for my standard hitch cub. the same ones would work on a fast hitch. I like the ones rick made much better than the originals I have seen, they are much easier to change implements if needed. The originals are just 3 tubes with a spacer welded between them and 3 long bolts so far as I can tell from the manuals.

Well, I just have the despeeder unit, and none of the other items. I think I can cobble something together for the brake extension, but what is the seal plate like?

Still need to make a spacer for the fast hitch. I might have a homemade one on a final bracket I took off a fast hitch with a howard. I'll check today but since I have no use for it pay for shipping and it's yours. Send me a PM. You will still have to lengthen the brake rods and such. If you need photos I maybe going up to the farm this afternoon I can take some photos for you.

Here a photo of the howard bracket connected to the fast hitch bracket. the bracket will need some hole repair or good for a template for old guys like me who don't know the CAD stuff.
