a nice fathers day present

Postby cubbrian » Sun Jun 15, 2014 7:58 pm

This weekend was the annual antique tractor show in Evansville, Indiana. There was also a 1975 long stripe cub for sale 6 miles north of our house. I had a dilemma. I ask my wife to go and bid on it and the trailer load of implements. Well apparently she intimidated the men and they all quit bidding when she started and I ended up coming back home from the show to drive the cub home with the 10 foot trailer, woods 42, front blade, regular drawbar and fast hitch, fast hitch plow, right angle pto belt pulley and a modified IH 110 3 point disc with a single point welded on. I will get pictures later. Does anyone know what the 110 disc would have been used for. I am ashamed to say what she had to give for it all. Oh, and by the way when she was in line to pay they gave her the key and a box with a new oil filter and the 2 hood decals. All had TM tractor part numbers on them. :{_}:

That's pretty cool. Not many women would do that for their man.

What - too much, or a super deal,

It is a strategy that works. My dad had an 8 year old me bid on a Remington rolling block .22 -- all the old geezers heard my little high pitched boy voice and dropped out. Got it for $3 back when.

Congratulations Brian! I imagine Sarah could have held her own even if they hadn’t dropped out!

About 15 years ago I looked at a Browning BSS at an auction I was interested in but unable to attend, so my wife went, armed with a little info. The bidding started and she said one old gentleman thought he had it for next to nothing when she jumped in. She said the looks they gave her was priceless, one guy said “hey, this isn’t a toaster little lady”… Needless to say she won it at a great price. One guys told her after the auction she paid too much, she replied with the condition it was and the blue book value, average selling price and how much below that it went for, he blushed and walked away. The gun has more than doubled in value since then making the story even sweeter!

I guess if you can’t get your dad to buy it, send Sarah!

As requested, here are the pictures. Even the trailer the implements and fast hitch is on was included.

The disk is a model 110 3 point made for a 154 loboy. It has a fast hitch point conversion. I have the original invoice for the tractor, blade, plow and fast hitch and a separate invoice for the disc. The invoice for the disc is dated 1977 and just says "disc with coupling package, $400." Not quite sure if it is a factory package though. The interesting thing is the tractor is one of the first 500 longstripes but the invoice is dated May 1977. Sarah got it all for $1000 plus tax and a 5% buyers premium. Total cost: $1123.50.
